Borovets is the oldest ski resort in Bulgaria, and is traditionally the winter playground of the more discerning Bulgarians.
It is situated 1300 metres above sea level. Property development in the region has deliberately been maintained at a minimum
to preserve its more exclusive image. It consists of a limited number of hotels and sports facilities, distributed in the
wooded areas at the base of the highest peak in the area, Mount Mussala.
Borovets offers skiers three different
ski areas: Sitnyakovo, Yastrebets and Markudjika, with a total of 45 kilometres of pistes. This will be doubled when the Super
Borovets project is completed.
Borovets town is dominated by two large hotels, Rila Hotel and Samokov Hotel. At
the front of the Rila Hotel there are a series of nursery slopes for beginners. Borovets has plenty of shops, supermarkets,
bars, cafes and restaurants catering for all needs.
