Dolna Banya is a picturesque town that lies 15 kilometres from Borovets
centre and approximately 60 kilometres from Sofia. Nestled in a valley in the Rila Mountains, it has a range of local shops,
and there are supermarkets just five kilometres away in neighbouring Kostanets. Storks stay in the centre from April until
September every year.
The town is close to many facilities. A top class golf course has been built there recently,
and a large spa centre is planned. There is a small airport just three kilometres away. The multi-million pound project to extend
the ski facilities at Borovets, the Super Borovets project, includes plans to build a gondola from Raduil, just five
kilometres from Dolna Banya, up to the top of the ski runs.
Dolna Banya is just fifteen minutes drive from the
ski slopes at Borovets, so as a winter retreat it is ideal. However, it is also a great base during the summer months
too. Temperatures are usually at least five degrees warmer here than they are in Borovets, and temperatures in July and August average
30C. Sofia and Plovdiv are both about an hour's drive away, and attractions such as Rila Monastery and The Seven Lakes
are not far away.
